Right Time, Wrong Time

Many years ago, an opportunity came up to invest in a fledgeling startup company. I did not have the funds to invest, so I told myself at the time, as everything I earned was ploughed back into the startup I was getting off the ground.

Consequently, I did not invest in the company that grew to be the fourth largest in their very significant market segment.

Was this something that came to me at the wrong time or the right time?

It is a question I often ponder late at night when sleep is elusive and financial uncertainty weighs down on my mind.

Does anything ever arrive at the right or wrong time?

I don’t believe so!

In my view of the world, many opportunities are swirling serendipitously around us. Whether we recognise them depends entirely on what we are ready to see and then, once seen, we allow ourselves to either welcome it or politely show them the door.

We become ready to open up to opportunity as we grow steadily towards the maturity that reveals it.

For every opportunity I said no to, there were more that I grabbed excitedly, drinking from that little fountain until it ran dry, only to find more trickles somewhere else. In return, it showed me much happiness, growth and fulfilment.

I will acknowledge that if I invested in the little startup that could, I would have had very few financial worries for the future, however ancient I prepare to be.

To borrow from famed fantasy writer Terry Pratchett — That was a one in a million opportunity. But as he also reminds us, one in a million opportunities show up nine times out of ten.
